Bob Armstrong is one of Juneau’s most innovative and energetic photographers. If you just need a great photo of pretty much anything in nature, check out his free images at www.naturebob.com.
But if you want to take great pictures yourself, Bob’s given you even more. His manual on photography for Alaskan conditions is available in local bookstores. It reviews types of cameras, techniques, and strategies for recording animals without alarming them.
Although Bob uses advanced DSLRs, he also appreciates the lighter weight and greater depth of field of ‘prosumer’ cameras. One of his favorites is the Panasonic Lumix FZ-200. Here’s his review of that camera and several accessories for a range of uses from ultramacros of 2mm-long springtails to telephotos of distant eagles.
This 13-page pdf is a classic example of Bob’s persistence in probing the limits of each field device, and clearly explaining its merits and limitations.
